News & Announcements

Why did Jesus turn water to wine?

Jesus turned the water into wine to build faith among His followers. Listen to John 2:1:  Jesus was invited to a wedding that had a feast. The wine being served at that feast ran out. When he commanded the servants to fill the jars with water in verse 7, Jesus then turned the abundant water in the 30-gallon stone jars into wine. In verse 10, we see that it was not mediocre wine, but of the best quality.

We see in verse 11 the purpose for this act. It says, “This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.” This act not only strengthened the faith of his disciples, but also brought glory to God.

Does this mean Christians are free to engage in recreational drinking? Return to your bible: Luke 21:34. We must watch ourselves so we’re not distracted by such things as drunkenness.
